Frontpage of the first edition of reformist Persian magazine Sur-e Esrafil (The Trumpet of Esrafil), published in Tehran on 30 May 1907.
The masthead depicts the angel Israfil sounding a trumpet above a mass of men, half dressed as mullahs, others in the distinctive hats of the Qajar. During the repressions of the Constitutional Revolution and on the command of the sixth Qajar Shah the journal was suspended in 1908. Its founder was executed.
